MATCH PREVIEW | Leopards and Rhinos clash in penultimate regular season game this Saturday
As the split in the Betfred Women's Super League season approaches fast, Leeds Rhinos Women play the penultimate game of the first part of the season this Saturday as they host Leigh Leopards at AMT Headingley, kick off 2pm.
In another double header of action with the Under-19s in action beforehand against Warrington, Lois Forsell's side look to add to their huge win over St Helens last time out as they welcome Leigh to home soil having beaten the Leopards in both Super League meetings last year. Leigh are in the fight for fourth place but will need a win in either of their last two games to make a surprise appearance in the top four.
Here's your match preview:
Opposition
Leigh Leopards are as close as they've ever been to a Betfred Women's Super League top four finish as the side enters round six tied with York Valkyrie and Huddersfield Giants with two wins and four league points.
As the first part of the season reaches its climax, the teams are locked in a three-way battle to take the final spot behind Leeds, Wigan and St Helens, but Leigh's challenge down the final stretch is tough with games against Leeds and Saints coming up in the next fortnight.
Coming up from the Championship for their debut Super League campaign in 2025, the side formerly coached by Kieron Purtill managed to win three games to finish alongside the Giants as the best of the rest outside of the expected top four of Leeds, York, Saints and the reigning Champion Warriors.
This year, the chance of coaching staff hasn't faltered the Leopards' form as the arrival of Nigel Johnson and Paul Arnison has seen the side open their campaign with a 34-8 win over Featherstone before adding a 20-18 result last time out against Barrow Raiders. Losses to Huddersfield, Wigan and York lie between both results, meaning Leigh will have to overturn one of the top three in their final two games to keep themselves in the fight.
The side continues to be upheld by their longest serving players Rhianna Burke, Storm Cobain, Kate Howard and Toryn Blackwood - all of which were part of last year's inaugural Super League squad. Howard leads the try scoring this campaign with five tries in seven outings, whilst Charlotte Melvin's goal kicking came in handy for last week's two point win over the Raiders.
This week sees the Leopards arrive at AMT Headingley having lost both games to the Rhinos in 2025, and lost a wider six games in all competitions. Since the Leigh Miners Rangers team were taken under the Leopards brand in 2023, they have lost four Challenge Cup games against Leeds, including an 82-0 defeat in this year's group game.
